For open source maintainers

Announce every release without copying it five times

SocialMate imports your project's GitHub releases from their Atom feed as drafts, and schedules the announcement to Mastodon, Bluesky, Discord, Telegram, LinkedIn and X. Write the release post once, add a thread of highlights, and get back to the code. The free plan covers 250 posts a month.

What you can do

Releases to drafts

Every GitHub repository has a releases feed at /releases.atom. Import it and each release becomes a draft with its link.

Mastodon and Bluesky first

Post to any Mastodon instance and to Bluesky at once, where much of the open source crowd now reads.

Your Discord server

Post release notes to your project's Discord channel through the SocialMate bot.

Community call reminders

Schedule the reminder, and use the free Discord timestamp generator so the time shows in every contributor's zone.

Co-maintainers can post

The free plan has 2 seats, so a co-maintainer can schedule to the project's accounts.

How to set it up

  1. 1Create a free SocialMate account and connect the project's accounts.
  2. 2Open RSS import and paste github.com/OWNER/REPO/releases.atom.
  3. 3Import the new release, edit the draft and pick platforms and a time.
  4. 4Post a thread of highlights to Mastodon or Bluesky if the release deserves one.

Good to know

  • SocialMate does not watch GitHub and post on its own; you import each release.
  • It does not post to GitHub Discussions, Reddit or Hacker News.
  • Posting to X needs the Pro plan.

Questions

How do I announce a GitHub release on Mastodon and Bluesky?
Import the release from your repository's releases.atom feed in SocialMate, then schedule the draft to Mastodon and Bluesky. Both are on the free plan.
Does it work with any Mastodon instance?
Yes. Connect the account on whichever instance your project uses.
Can I post a thread of release highlights?
Yes. The thread builder posts each part as a reply to the one before, on Mastodon, Bluesky and X, when you post it right away.
