Questions
- How do I use my own domain as my Bluesky handle?
- Add one TXT record at your domain's DNS provider: host _atproto, value did= followed by your account's DID. Once it is live, choose to use your own domain under Settings, Account, Handle in Bluesky and press verify.
- Why does Bluesky say it cannot verify my domain?
- Usually the record is not live yet, the host was entered as the bare domain instead of _atproto, or the value has a typo or an extra did= record beside it. The check on this page tells you which.
- Can I use a subdomain, like you.example.com?
- Yes. The record then goes at _atproto.you.example.com. Many teams give each member a subdomain this way.
- Will I lose my followers or posts?
- No. Your account is tied to your DID, not your handle, so followers and posts stay. Links and mentions that used your old handle stop pointing to you, so update them where you can.
- What does this page send anywhere?
- Only what it needs: your current handle to Bluesky's public API to look up your DID, and your domain to Cloudflare's public DNS resolver to read the record. Nothing is stored.
