A Book Launch Social Media Plan You Can Set Up in One Afternoon

Twenty messages, three phases and one afternoon. Set up your launch posts once and let them run while you write the next book.

Gather these first

Before you write a single post, collect what the posts will point to and quote from:

  • Your buy links, and your preorder link if preorders are open.
  • Your newsletter signup link.
  • Three to five short review quotes or blurbs.
  • The cover image.
  • One sentence about the book that makes someone want to read it.
  • Write twenty messages in three phases

A launch is not one post. It is the same few reasons to buy, said many ways over several weeks.

    Before launch

  • The cover reveal and the one-sentence pitch.
  • A short excerpt.
  • Why you wrote it.
  • The preorder link, with any preorder bonus.
  • Launch week

  • It is out, with the buy link.
  • A review quote with the link.
  • A thank-you to early readers.
  • After launch

  • More review quotes, one per post.
  • A question for readers about the book.
  • A reminder to leave a review.
  • Your newsletter link, for the next book.
  • Let a campaign post them

SocialMate's campaign mode takes up to 20 messages and posts them in turn on the days and times you pick until an end date, for up to 26 weeks. It can reword each message with AI so the repeats do not read the same, and it keeps a reworded version only if every link and price in it is unchanged.

Write the messages once, set the days and the end date, and the launch keeps running while you get back to writing.

    Go where your readers are

  • Bluesky has an active book community, and Mastodon has readers on most servers.
  • LinkedIn works well for nonfiction and anything tied to your profession.
  • A Discord server or Telegram channel keeps your most loyal readers close.
  • TikTok's book community wants video. SocialMate posts videos to TikTok through TikTok Studio.
  • SocialMate does not post to Goodreads, Amazon or Instagram. Posting to X needs the Pro plan.

    Do not only sell

If every post is a buy link, people stop reading them. Mix in the writing process, the research, the cut scenes and the questions readers ask you. The selling posts work better when they are a third of the feed, not all of it.
