Two of the most popular trading indicators explained simply — and why using multiple signals together produces better results than either alone.
A stock's price at any given moment tells you one thing: what someone just paid for it. That's all.
Technical indicators are attempts to extract more information from price and volume data — to identify patterns, momentum, and potential turning points that aren't visible in a single price.
No indicator is right all the time. Most indicators are wrong a third of the time or more. The value comes from combining signals and only acting when multiple indicators agree.
**What it measures:** Momentum. Specifically, whether a stock is overbought or oversold relative to its recent price history.
**How it works:** RSI calculates the ratio of recent gains to recent losses over a set period (usually 14 days). It produces a number between 0 and 100.
**The catch:** A stock can stay overbought for weeks during a strong uptrend. RSI alone causes many false signals.
**What it measures:** The relationship between two moving averages of a stock's price — tracking both trend direction and momentum shifts.
**How it works:** MACD calculates the difference between a 12-day and 26-day exponential moving average. When the MACD line crosses above the signal line, that's a buy signal. When it crosses below, that's a sell signal.
**The catch:** MACD is a lagging indicator — it confirms trends rather than predicting them. It's better at avoiding false signals during sideways markets than RSI.
Neither RSI nor MACD alone is reliable enough to act on. When both agree — RSI showing oversold AND MACD showing a bullish crossover — the probability of a successful trade is meaningfully higher than either signal alone.
Enki uses 7 signal sources simultaneously:
1. RSI
2. MACD
3. Candlestick patterns
4. Moving average trends
5. Congressional trade disclosures
6. Reddit sentiment analysis
7. Fear & Greed Index
The system only executes a trade when confidence crosses a threshold that requires agreement across these sources. One strong signal is not enough. All 7 must agree before Enki acts.
