Sharing a LinkedIn password breaks LinkedIn's rules and gets accounts locked. Here is the setup where the client keeps the keys and the assistant still does the posting.
The usual way a VA posts for a client is the client's LinkedIn password in a shared note. It causes trouble every time:
The client connects LinkedIn to their own SocialMate account once. The assistant posts from their own login. Nobody shares a password.
1. The client creates a free SocialMate account and connects LinkedIn, plus any of Bluesky, X, Discord, Telegram, Mastodon or TikTok.
2. The client opens Team and invites the assistant as an Editor.
3. The assistant accepts and picks the client's workspace under "Shared with you" in the sidebar.
4. The assistant writes the post, chooses the client's LinkedIn and a time, and schedules it.
The free plan has 2 seats, so one business owner and one assistant is free.
Everything the assistant schedules shows up in the client's own Queue, Calendar and Drafts. The client can move a post to another day, edit it or delete it, without asking.
On Pro and Agency, an Editor's posts wait for the owner's approval before they go out. On the free plan they go straight to the queue, and the owner can still change them before they publish.
Each client who invites you appears under "Shared with you", so one login covers all of them. If you would rather hold the accounts yourself, as an agency does, Agency includes 5 client workspaces and 15 seats.
